I live just outside of Hereford and have been practising and studying yoga since 2004 with Jenny Bullough in Clifford near Hay-on-Wye, Herefordshire. I started practising yoga whilst recovering from a short period of ill health and from my initial experience on a therapeutic basis, a small seed was planted and my interest in all aspects of yoga began to grow. I have always been an active person and enjoy using yoga to support other physical activities and pursuits. Having completed several marathons and a number of long-distance bike rides (including Lands End to John o' Groats) I could be considered quite an adventurous person! Physically yoga has helped me to strengthen and relieve muscle tension and to find a balanced approach to exercise.
Aside from the physical benefits of yoga, through study and regular practise, I have found the teachings of yoga a useful tool in maintaining a better lifestyle balance. I am very dedicated to finding creative, relevant, helpful and accessible ways to support others and pass on what I have learnt. In addition to my background in yoga I have worked as a youth worker, community musician, as a project worker creating advocacy services for people with learning disabilities, a music teacher and support worker enabling disabled people to be independent in their own homes.
As a musician by trade I teach saxophone and clarinet and perform as a woodwind player and singer-songwriter. One of the reasons Viniyoga made so much sense to me is that, like music, the step-by-step approach to learning through direct experience encourages self sufficiency and independence, which in turn creates the freedom and direction needed to achieve personal goals in a long-lasting and meaningful way. The use of the breath as a tool to direct and focus the mind strongly enhanced my development as a singer and as a woodwind player.
Group classes I aim to tailor my classes to meet everyones physical needs but also to provide a relaxing and reflective atmosphere so you can take some time out from your busy lives. The emphasis on breathing in the postures in this type of yoga provides both a meditative and invigorating experience, treating both the mind and the body. For more details click here.
